Frozen on the Rocks is a competition entry for the Waller Creek Show in Austin.
The pair of sculptural objects are proposed for a site-specific lighting installation invoking the qualities of an iceberg to delight and intrigue visitors of the Waller Creek Show. The image of an iceberg conjures up powerful ideas, at once frightening and fun, utterly familiar yet also mysterious. Its impenetrability, its vastness, and its scalelessness make it an iconic and captivating form.
The primary structural frame of the iceberg rests on skids on the stone creek bed, with a customizable and flexible secondary frame comprising the panels. Cladding materials for the iceberg are twin wall polycarbonate panel, colored acrylic panel, and mirrored acrylic panel with custom applied surface treatments, lit nocturnally from within.
